Yuncheng(City of Transportation, 运城) traditionally renowned as City of Salt Transportation for its affluence in salt resource. Yuncheng also is the hometown of Guan Yu, the most influential and famous general of China ancient history lived in period of Three Kingdoms and later mythicized into the God of City or Lord Guan(关公). By the way, Guan Yu in folk community was respected to be Martial Saint(武圣) as famous as Confucius who was titled Cultural Saint(文圣). Yuncheng located in the connection area of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan provinces is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization. Roughly 1.8 million years ago, humankind lived and bred here. It was the first capital of Chinese history, the capital of Xia Dynasty. Amidst Spring and Autumn period, Jiang county of Yuncheng served as the Kingdom capital of Jin State, who was an incomparable powerful state during this warring period. Its most important resource: Salt used to be a crucial means to hold down other states in short supply of salt. In 2000, approved by State Council, Yuncheng was upgraded into a city

Yuncheng teems with tourist resources. In 2006, it was ranked one of China Ten Top Glamorous Cities. Currently, there are more than 200 ancient relics remained, and cultural sites more than 1600. Among them, the sites under national protection are 22, 65 under provincial protection, 2 belong to National Forest Park. The most prominent destinations are Yongle Palace famous for its frescos, Pujiu Temple famous as the place of Chinese classic love story Xi Xiang Ji and Guan Que Tower famous as one of Chinese Four Top Classic Towers. What is more, Lishan Original Forest as the largest and best-preserved forest park in north China and China First Village of Premier are also the hot spots. The historical figures born in Yuncheng are also enormous such as Guan Yu, Wang Tong, Wang Bo ,Wang Wei, Liu Zongyuan, Xue Rengui, Simaguang, Lv Dongbing and others.

 

Yuncheng is also a best place for appreciating traditional folk culture such as paper-cut, temple-fair show（shown above）, classic rite of worshipping and others.
