Holiday bazaar

As the Christmas season begins, tree-lighting ceremonies and parties are always a traditional form of institutional celebrations. Last week saw the German Embassy's famous annual Christmas Fete, while this weekend sees the first Christmas train in Beijing. Meanwhile, the Shang Da International Hotel, a four-star hotel located in the south of the city, plans to launch its fi rst, distinctive three-day Christmas Bazaar, displaying what they call "the authentic Christmas activities of foreigners to the Chinese people."

"Distinctive" products and lots of fun at Shang Da International Hotel's Christmas bazaar

A score of Western-style cake stores, opened by expatriates living in Beijing, will bring their unique products to the bazaar on the second fl oor of the hotel, including Christmas biscuits, chocolates, wine and turkey, as well as Christmas accessories, introduced by General Manager Cui Shanshan. If that's not enough, people can also join in the children's choir or participate in DIY activities, such as molding and baking cakes. Cui added. "If you forget to bring cameras, photographers can record the unforgettable moments of [you] making cakes or [sitting] with Santa Claus and send the photos directly to your home. Scrumptious Christmas feast and set meals will certainly be available for your choice."

Despite so many activities, however, it's really not that expensive - adult guests only need to pay 100-yuan admission, but this can then be converted to ten 10-yuan coupons to buy food and gifts at the bazaar and there's free admission for kids. Plus all guests have the chance to win the grand prize worth 5,000 yuan.
