Chongqing to move 200,000 people from Three Gorges Area
Chongqing in southwest China is planned to invest about 100 billion RMB to move 200,000 to 300,000 inhabitants out of the Three Gorges Area, where along the Yangtze River. This is a post-Three Gorges Project emigration plan.
It is learnt that the municipal government would like to move out all the population living along the Yangtze River in Chongqing City, and the emptied Three Gorges reservoir becomes a greenery area. The whole project will cost about 100 billion RMB, including migration, housing and environmental protection work on the bank of the Three Gorges reservoir, where the high and low tides will affect the natural environment there.
The moving of the population in the Three Gorges area for the Dam project, called the Million Migration Project has been completed last year, and this new migration plan is out of the original one.
Recently, Chongqing has attained 100 billion RMB financial supports by China's "Wealth, Migration and Future Development of the Reservoir", and now if Chongqing bid for post-Three Gorges migration successfully, Chinese authority will give another support of 100 billion to the largest municipality in China.
However, Chongqing migration bureau and relevant departments have not confirmed the information yet.
