China ranked first in gold medal tally

Up to four in the afternoon, August 11, 2008, China's delegation is ranked first in the gold medal tally, with seven gold medals in their XXIX Olympiad performance. In the first day of the Olympics, Chen Xiexia, the 48kg woman weightlifter, won the first gold medal for Group A snatch weightlifting competition. The second of the day was won by Pang Wei in the men's 10-meter air pistol final.

On Sunday August 10, the second day of the event, China has won four Gold Medals. Chinese markswoman Guo Wenjun smashed Olympic record in women's 10-meter air pistol with 492.3 points, winning China the second shooting gold medal at the Beijing Shooting Range Hall. Guo, went into the finals ranked second among eight finalists with 390 points. In front of her was Russian shooter Natalia Paderina, who bettered the Olympic record in preliminary of the event with 391 points.

South Korean swimming prodigy Park Taehwan realized his dream to win the men's 400m freestyle gold medal at the Olympics here on Sunday. Park clocked in 3:41.86 to top the podium and China's Zhang Lin got the silver in 3:42.44, China's first medal in this event. American Larsen Jensen finished third in 3:42.78.

Chinese Xian Dongmei defeated DPR Korean An Kum Ae to win the women's 52kg judo gold medal.

Chinese world and Olympic champion Guo Jingjing took the limelight of the Water Cube together with her partner Wu Minxia as they retained their women's three-meter springboard synchronized gold at Beijing Olympic Games.

Guo and Wu, took the lead after the second round in the final to collect 343.50 points, beating their closest rivals Julia Pakhalina and Anastasia Pozdnyakova of Russia, who posted 323.61, by almost 20 points.

"I just considered the final as a normal competition, in order to reduce the pressure," said Guo, also gold medalist of the women's 3m springboard in Athens. "I did not do anything special to prepare for it."

Heike Fischer and Ditte Kotzian of Germany, silver medalists of the event in the 2007 Melbourne world championships, finished third with 318.90.

The German pair had trailed the American tandem Kelci Bryant and Ariel Rittenhouse in the first three rounds, but they tied the points after the fourth dive, and finally managed to surpass them in the last round.

Chinese Long Qingquan totaled 292kg to win the men's 56kg division weightlifting gold medal. Vietnam's Hoang Anh Tuan took the silver with 290kg and Indonesian Eko Yuli Irawan got the bronze with 288.

Chinese Lin Yue and Huo Liang scored 468.18 points to win the men's 10m synchronized diving gold medal at the Olympic Games here on Monday.
