Water Splashing Festival of Dai people
Falling on each April 13, Water Splashing Festival is the most influential celebration of Dai people residing in Xishuangbanna, southwest Yunnan province. This over 700-year-old festival will last from three to seven days. Main festivities including water splashing, dragon boat racing, peacock dance and Elephant Foot Dance. Young people also seize the chance to find their soul mates.
Torch Festival of Yi Nationality
Collectively observed by Yi, Bai, Naxi, Jinuo and Lahu people on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, Torch Festival is famed as “Oriental Carnival”. Besides fire worship ritual and torch parade, it also involves bull, rooster or goat fighting, horse racing, wrestling, singing and beauty selection.

March Street Fair of Bai People
Rooted in Buddhism, March Street Fair has evolved into a comprehensive festival embracing trade, sport and entertainment. During daytime, Bai people, together with other tribes such as Yi, Tibetan, Lisu and Hui, will bringing their colorful crafts, herbs and livestocks before thronging into markets. It is time to buy souvenirs, savor the most diversified local snacks, take authentic photos and enjoy love songs, dances, archery competition, horse race and Bai opera. Shibaoshan Singing Festival of Bai People
From July 27 to July 29(lunar calendar, which will last from August 22 to 24 in 2014), Shibaoshan Singing Festival will take place in the picturesque Shibaoshan Mountain, Jianchuan County, Yunnan. It will draw tens of thousands of minorities from far-flug villages to this ancient town, singing, dancing and indulging in various entertainments. The impressive scale, merry atmosphere, intoxicating music and delicious snacks will make you hard to move the steps.
Luoping Rape Flower Cultural Tourism Festival
During each early spring, Luoping County will be submerged by an ocean of golden rapeseed blossoms spanning over 533km2. This giant natural open air garden is shared by minorities including Buyi, Yi, Hui and Miao, which account for 12% of the whole population. Time your visit during the 2rd day of the second lunar month(March 2, 2014), or the 3rd day of the third lunar month (April 3, 2014),so you can see how Buyi people celebrate their Valentines’Day named Er Yue Er (Februay the Second) and grand worship festival named San Yue San (March the Third). For your reference, the flower period of rape seed blossom lasted from January 31 to April 18 in 2013.
Axi Fire Worship Festival of Yi Nationality
During each February 3, Hongwan Village of Mile County, Yunnan will stage the millennium-old Axi Fire Worship Festival. During this festival, you can enjoy the most engaging primitive dance performed by half naked Yi young men. Their bodies are painted with the intriguing patterns of sun, their totem. They will jump over fires to get rid of bad luck and bring blessings not only for themselves, but also for the whole village.
