Azalea the Flower of Xitang
The leisurely Xitang people like birds and flowers, and the water town also known as the Home of Azalea. Since middle period of the Qing Dynasty, Xitang people have loved to keep the flowers. However, azaleas are so delicate and they must be taken great care of. Keeping the plant can cultivate people in quality of mind and body. In 1972, when the former US President, Richard Nixon visited China and came to Hangzhou, where the hotel he stayed required many flowers to decorate, but at that time in China people regarded keeping plants and flowers were bourgeois' "bad tastes", so there were many kinds of plants and flowers being destroyed. Zhejiang Garden Administration had to find beautiful flowers hurriedly to help the Hangzhou hotel's decoration. At last, they found 19 pots of azaleas and 20 pots of bonsais in Xitang Town. Since then, Xitang's azaleas had made the ancient town famous and the people more love their flowers.
