Wuzhen Brocade
Yidasi Shop as the most famous time-honored brand in Wuzhen was founded by Shen Yongchang. One of his sons named Shen Xuewen who succeeded the career of his father. In order to get over the unmarketable condition of brocade made of the traditional wooden machines, he decided to replace the traditional products with brocade products. In 1923, he selected dozens of apprentices to learn the techniques of brocade in Hangzhou, Suzhou and Nanjing. After several years’ hard work and tries, he invited a quite complicated brocade machine with more than two thousand parts and more than 100 working procedures.
The products making with such a machine is time-consuming. More than 100 days will be taken from design to finished products. Each day, just 5 or 6 centimeters can be made. It is of course very dear and treasured. Wuzhen Brocade was made of the well-selected top-class natural silks. Some products are made of the gold thread. The workers absorb Chinese famous techniques of weaving and the new-style fashion, and then make a famous brand of brocade in China. It is was widely called Wujin(Wuzhen Brocade).
