Top-Ten China Universities


Compared with west modern universities, modern universities in Mainland China are much younger, except some unique time-honored academies that amalgamated by some stronger modern universities. But in their short growing period, some of them were too outstanding and world famous to be neglected. For instance, Peking University used to be the top leader of East Asian higher education, thanks to many respected educationists like Cai Yuanpei and Hu Shi. In the time of reign of The Republic of China, many universities grew fast and finalized the basic structure of Chinese higher education after 1949. The top-ten famous universities today include: Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Renmin University of China (born after 1949 and absolutely founded by Communist Party of China), Beijing Normal University, Sun Yat-sen University, Wuhan University and Nanjing University.

Peking University

Peking University is the first-rank university in China. Peking University originally was named Jingshi Imperial University, or Jinshi Daxuetang. Peking University is the earliest and most famous university in China. To a great degree, it is the symbol of China’s modernization and renaissance. Sun Yat-sen University is a name-brand institution of higher education with fine traditions in teaching and learning. In 1924, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, great leader of the 20th century, founded this university personally, and inscribed in his own handwriting the school motto of "Study extensively; Enquire accurately; Reflect carefully; Discriminate clearly; Practise earnestly." The school was originally named Guangdong University, and later renamed Sun Yat-sen University in 1926.
