High Altitude Sickness (Acute Mountain Sickness) Relief Solution
In order to better adjust to the high altitude climate, you’d better have an examination before you go and comply with the doctor’s suggestions. Take in some medicines that can improve your oxygen supply ability before entering Tibet, like rhodiola and ginseng. Besides, you should keep exercise and stay healthy. People who suffer from high blood or severe heart disease should not travel to Tibet.
During the night before setting off, avoid catching cold and have a good sleep. When in Tibet, keep on taking in cordyceps and rhodiola that can relieve fatigue and enhance immunity.
On the first arriving day it is not suggested to do any high-oxygen consuming activities and have a rest instead. It is not good to be always fed up, but drink as much water as possible, for mountain air is dry and cold and breath will unnoticeably take away your water in body. Drink less or even not drink irritating beverage. If you feel strong headache before sleep, insert oxygen for 30 to 60 minutes. Acute mountain sickness, when developed to a very serious situation, can be high altitude pulmonary (HAPE) and altitude cerebral edema (HACE), which are fatal.
First go to low altitude places, then to high altitude areas. E.g. you can choose Nyingchi first, which is 2,900 meters above sea level, then Shigatse and Namco.
Don't force yourself during climbing up as it will consume too much oxygen.
