Shigatse Travel Guide
Shigatse（日喀则）, in Tibetan, means "The Best Fazenda". It used to be cultural, religious and political center in history and also many Panchens of different generations left a lot of historical sites here. Shigatse by virtue of its ancient culture, grand temple building complexes, magnificent natural landscape and the better geographic location has become one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Tibetan Region.
Tashilunpo Monastery
Shigatse located in the southwest of Qinghai-Tibet plateau covers 182,000 square kilometers with an average altitude of 4000 meters. Shigatse city located in south of Tibet and the connecting region of Yarlung Zangbu River（雅鲁藏布江） and Nianchu River（年楚河）. It borders on Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim.
Shigatse is one of Tibetan Barns with sufficient sunlight. Today’s city design and infrastructure of Shigatse is changing everyday.
Zhanfo Festival
It takes a great advantage of highway systems. Going southwardly, visitors can see the world’s highest peak---Mount Qomolangma（珠穆朗玛峰）. Northwardly, people can arrive in Nakqu（那曲）; eastwardly, people can get to Lhasa and Shannan（山南） region; westwardly, people can reach Ali（阿里） directly.
Jumping-God Festival
There are also famous religious festivals annually held such as Tibetan-Opera Performance（藏戏演出）, Jumping-God Festival（跳神节） and Zhanfo Festival（展佛节） of Tashilunpo Monastery（扎什伦布寺）. They are world-wide famous for its uniqueness and mystery.
