Shenzhen Travel Guide

What comes first into one's mind when speaking of Shenzhen? Maybe it's the image of big crowds of people, ambitious businessmen, dazzling neon lights along the street, fashionable girls with pride in high heels with different accents, and electronics plazas stuffed with the latest gadgets. People also have a mutual agreement that Shenzhen is a paradise both for struggle and enjoyment of life.

Before 1979, Shenzhen was only a small fishing village called Baoan country; after that, when the new policy of building a Special Economic Zone, it has developed into one of the most modernized and expensive metropolises in China.

While

Shenzhen City

does not have as many historical attractions as other famous cities in China, it has created a number of excellent theme parks which entertain and teach visitors about China and the world. "Splendid China" and

"China Folk Culture"

villages introduce visitors to China's long history and varied cultures, while "Window of the World" will take you to every corner of the world in one day. Additionally, if you want to make your stay even more luxurious, visit "Happy Valley", situated on a picturesque coastline and Shenzhen's largest theme park.

Come to enjoy the coastal view, the theme parks, the city, and especially the people of Shenzhen City .

Shenzhen Climate

Shenzhen has a subtropical maritime climate with ample sunshine. It's suitable for traveling to all the year round. There's a warm spring, autumn and winter and hot summer here with an annual average temperature around 24 degrees Celsius. In summer though, the temperature reaches 37 degrees Celsius. Typhoons may strike in late summer and autumn.

Shenzhen People

Each year, more and more people come to Shenzhen to try to find employment. As a result, the city has become increasingly crowded. The local government has recently made city-wide environmental improvements in an effort to combat problems caused by overpopulation. In recognition for these improvements, Shenzhen was awarded the

Garden City

 Award in 2000.

While Shenzhen has had to overcome a number of obstacles resulting from this population swell, the city has also benefited from the increased diversity. Workers come to Shenzhen from almost every part of china, bringing with their local traditions and cuisines.

Shenzhen Transportation

Thanks to its developed economy, it is easy to get to Shenzhen quickly and comfortably by air, train or ship. Unfortunately local transportation is not equally convenient; transportation within the city is rather hit-or-miss due to the large population. However, the number of transportation options available helps to counteract the problems caused by overcrowding. In contrast, lodging in Shenzhen is very easy to find, as there are a number of hotels which frequently host businessmen and visitors from all over the world. Finally, when you visit Shenzhen, make sure that you plan at least one day trip to Hong Kong, where you can enjoy the sites and attractions of that famous international metropolis.

Shenzhen Geography

Shenzhen is located in the southern portion of Guangdong Province, on the eastern shore of the Pearl River Delta. Neighboring the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong (located just south of Shenzhen); Shenzhen's location gives it a geographical advantage for economic development. In 1980, the first Special Economic Zone of China was built in Shenzhen. From then on, Shenzhen became a highlighted city of China, one known for its rapid economic growth.
