Folklore of Hainan---Tianyahaijiao(Ultima Thule)

Tianyahaijiao（Edges of the heaven, corners of the sea) is a must in Sanya tours. Simply, Tianyahaijiao is only several stones gathered together, although it is idealized for a long time and said to be the end of the world. Anciently, Hainan was an isolated island for demoting and exiling officials. As for Hainan Island, there is much folklore concerned.

It is said there was one man and one woman lived on a remote continent. They kept touch closely since their childhood, but after they grew up, their families did not allow them to marry. And then they flee away from their hometown to Sanya. In front of them, it is the vast sea and behind them, there were their families chasing after. Fell in dilemma, they had no choice but run into sea in way of hugging. At the moment, the thundering and lightning happened, after a sound of bang, all people were hit to be the stone. It was said that two stones named Tianya and Haijiao standing beside the sea are changed by this couple.

There was another story: anciently the devil waves surged on the sea of Sanya, and people were threaten by the waves and did not dare to go out. Two fairies of Heaven Empress heard this and cracked down the waves. Heard by Heaven Empress, two fairies were chased by thunder-chief ordered by Heaven Empress. Two fairies disobeyed and changed to be two sailing stone. The thunder-chief were angry very much and put the stone into two pieces. One is in sea and one stands on the side of sea. It is another famous tourist site named Nantiantizhu(南天一柱， One Pillar in Southern Sky).
