Wantuo (碗脱) is a kind of traditional noodle snack in Pingyao city, created by chef Dong Xuan about a hundred years ago. Local people often eat it with wine. It looks like Chinese bean jelly and it can be served chilled in summertime. Today, the descendents of master Dong still run a store to sell this noodle snack. 

Pingyao beefPingyao beef recipes have long history. The meat is famous for its fatness and softness, but not quite greasy.

Pingyao's moderate climate, abundant sunshine, low altitude and fertile land produce juicy pears. They have smooth appearance, big and excellent for body's health.

Bean curd jelly is a local favorite snack, widely available and very cheap. The jelly is seasoned and flavored with soup made from quality ingredients.

Pingyao Yellow Wine is brewed of local glutinous rice, which gives good fragrance. The alcoholic beverage is not so strong. It has 18 kinds of amino acid, of which eight are essential for human but the body cannot be compounded by itself. Pingyao Yellow Wine is good for cooking and people call it "liquid cake", which has excellent medical functions if drink a small amount everyday.

Pingyao Guanyun grilled chicken with Chinese herbs is sold in a vacuum processed package nowadays. When unpacked, you can see the golden color. The chicken is soft with Chinese herb fragrance.
