Manzhouli travel, Hulun Buir tour, China travel

The exotic feel city of Manzhouli (满洲里 in Chinese), nicknamed "the Pearl of the North", is in the heart of the grand steppe of Hulun Buir, bordering Mongolia and Russia to the west and the north respectively. Manzhouli, Russians called it "Manchuria" in early 20th century. It has always been the largest foreign trade port in China's land border.

Since the dawn of 20th century, Manzhouli has been a city of events and chaos. In 1920s ad 30s, it was the important passage of communication between the Communist Party of China and the Communist International. During the final stage of World War II, the Soviet Red Army fired very first shot on their way to the Pacific battle. The material aid from the Soviet Union came to China through Manzhouli during China's liberation war and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. In fighting the blockade of sea trade by Western countries, as an important trade port yet, Manzhouli had supported much to China's building-up and development during 1950s. 

After the implementation of Reform and Opening-up Policy in late 1970s, Manzhouli has been a test area for economic system reform. Like Shenzhen in southern China, Manzhouli became a key business port emphasizing on economic development in recent decades.

Manzhouli, a 730-square-kilometer town, has a population of about 260,000. Also, it is a multi-cultural town that is having the airs of Chinese, Russian, Korean, Muslim and Mongolian.
