"Eating Orchid Sugar Cake during Orchid Flower Festival" is the advertising slogan of Shuimen Fast Food Restaurant (水门快餐店) composed by the boss of the Orchid Sugar Cake stall inside it, Lai Suzhen (赖素贞).
Years of restaurant running experience has made Lai to have dexterous brain and hands in cooking. She can make many kinds of dim sum snack. But the best thing that she produces is Orchid Sugar Cake. Her cake is made that referred to the Longyou (龙游) Sugar Cake recipes at Quzhou (衢州) in western Zhejiang Province. She added Lanxi's local style. Recently she knew that Lanxi would hold an orchid festival in September, so she had a brand-new idea : why didn't we make Orchid Sugar Cake to cater the festival tourists ?
Lai Suzhen's cake is having orchid patterns made from red (flowers) and green (leaves) threads with delicate craftsmanship on the surface that wafts osmanthus fragrance. The dim sum is so welcomed by passers-by. The beautiful cakes are put in a middle-sized basket. 16 baskets have been sold within two hours on the first day of selling.
