Historic Events of Jingdezhen
In East Jin Dynasty, it was established as Pingzhen Town. From then on, Jingdezhen acted as a town in China In time of Five Dynasties, the Porcelain industry begun to flourish, and it was the pioneering time of establishing Porcelain Capital of China. In 1004, during the reign of Emperor Zhenzong of Song Dynasty, Jingdezhen as the city name was confirmed.
In Yuan Dynasty, some progress was made for porcelain-making techniques. The raw materials and working procedures were both upgraded. It did a great contribution to coming true the large-sized porcelain products. In Ming Dynasty, The fleets led by Zheng He westwardly to west oceans brought the unprecedented prosperity of porcelain economy in Jingdezhen. In Qing Dynasty, Tang Yin wrote book professionally recorded and summarized the porcelain industry in Jingdezhen.
In 1906, Zhang Hao and Kang Da co-opened Chinese Porcelain College in Poyang for raising professional talents of Jingdezhen porcelain. In 1912, a school was established and named Jiangxi Provincial Porcelain School. Porcelain Art Research Society organized by Wang Qi, Wu Aisheng and Wang Yeting to carry out the research of porcelain production. And in 1915 it was renamed Jiangxi Provincial First-Kind Industrial School and in 1916, a branched school was opened in Jingdezhen, which was the earliest porcelain educational institute in Jingdezhen. In 1915, a masterpiece of Jingdezhen porcelain won the gold medal of The 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition. In 1949, Jingdezhen turned to be administrated by new government.
In 1958, Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute was founded. In 1975, Chairman Mao Porcelain was specially made for Mao Zedong. In 1982, Hutian Ancient Ceramic Kiln was ranked the second batch of cultural relics under the national-level protection. In 1990, the first session of Jingdezhen International Ceramic Festival was successfully held. In 1998, Jingdezhen was seriously harmed by the flood. In 2004, the first session of Jingdezhen International Ceramic Exposition and Ceremony of Thousand-Year Jingdezhen were both successfully held.
