Huangshan city traditionally called Huizhou, and anciently also called Xin’an, was validated to be one county 2200 years ago. Huangshan as a municipal city in 1987 was approved by the State Council of China. The former name of Huangshan city was Huizhou, and currently it administrates three districts, that is, Tunxi District, Huangshan District and Huizhou District and four counties (Shexian County, Xiuning County, Qimen County and Yixian County) as well as Huangshan Mountain Scenic Area.
