Festivals and Events
Rice Noodle Festival

Xing’an County is recognized as the birthplace of Rice Noodle, a popular and inexpensive dish which is often associated with Guilin, just as roasted duck to Beijing. Legend had it that over 2000 years ago, Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered one chef to invent a food for his soldiers from north China, whose main diet were noodles made of flour rather than rice. Inspired by the making process of noodles, this chef created the rice noodle. Featuring delicious flavor, this dish soon gained popularity among the soldiers, who contributed a lot to unify China. The first Rice Noodle Festival occurred from April 30 to May 7, 2007, and during the following three years, it was held from April 28 to May 3. Last year, it was staged from June 9 to June 12. Over 26 festivities were celebrated, including ancient music performance, Rice Noodle Eating Competition, Beer-drinking Competition, On-site Rice Noodle Cooking Show and Historic Relics Exhibition, etc.
