Chengde Specialties
Chengde's high latitude and altitude produce large areas of forest and steppe. You will find hazelnut, fern, almond, mushroom and chestnut so on. The famous canned almond beverage in China, Lu Lu (露露), is made from the almonds in Chengde. The uniqueness in population structure in Chengde's 40,000 square meters land has produced special folk handicraft masters. Apart from the Han Chinese majority, 44 ethnic minorities take up about 46 percent of the 3.5 million people in the city. Cloth paintings, artworks made from walnuts, paper-cuttings, silk-woven hangings and tree-root carvings etc. are having ethnic characteristics.
