Pudong New Area of ShanghaiShanghai Pudong New Area is located in the east of Shanghai and at the edge of Yangtze River Delta. Pudong new area is on the east bank of Huangpu River. On the east of Pudong is estuary of Yangtze River. It connects with Nanhui District and Mingxing District. The total coverage is 533.44 square kilometers and the total population is 2.8 million (up to 2003).

In 1990, the Polibureau of China made a great policy to exploit Pudong area of Shanghai. Shanghai municipal government followed the strategic blueprint of Central government and made the guideline of developing Pudong, prevailing Shanghai, serving China and facing world. In 2005, Shanghai municipal government defined Pudong's functions as four points: with the precondition of erecting and fulfilling the viewpoint of scientific development, structuring socialistic harmonious society, and bringing the Four-Center national strategy into effect.

It plays a leading role in pre-experimental zone for opening and reform policy, and is an exemplified zone for independent innovation and creativity and core zone for modernized service industry. The policy above means the Pudong Reform enters the new stage. After 16-Year elaborate plan and implementation, it has got a great achievement in Pudong exploitation and opening. Now it is the window of China's reform and opening and concentration of Shanghai modernization construction.

There are more than 360 domestic and foreign fund institutions, securities companies, futures and property right companies in Lujiazui finance and trade zone. Among them, asset sum of 59 foreign-capital banks covers 60% in China. The exchange-scale of Shanghai property exchange bourse is ranked the first place in China.
