Qin Huai River
The famous Chinese writer Zhu Ziqing (1898 - 1948) once emotionally praised the evening scene of the Qinhuai River, "The dim, yellowish lanterns make everything at and near the berth of our boat very misty. We can barely see the contours of the people's face, but the moon scene can still be clearly seen. It is a great miracle ! Then we look at the sky, it is in lovely deep blue and we feel that it looks like the crystal-clear water in a lake."The scenic river is flowing through the Nanjing city. The advantaged environment and accumulated culture have created the magnificent scenery along the river and made the city of Nanjing beautiful, either day or night. The 5km length Qinhuai River Scenic Belt with the Confucius Temple as its center is the largest gathering of entertainment venues and loved by tourists at home and abroad. The popular local phrase, "The prosperous ten miles of Qinhuai" means the prosperous atmosphere with the flux of merchants and literati in ancient China. It was historically described as "the place filled with elegance and talent, and the residence gathered with rich and famous". The renovated Qinhuai River is still having old boats, waterside pavilions and red mansions with green windows, but the adding of the modern lighting techniques, the ancient atmosphere is weakened as the leisurely lifestyle.
The Qinhuai cuisine has created about 80 mouth-watering dishes in Nanjing. The most famous dishes are Baked Cake of the Yellow Bridge, the Beef Fried Dumplings with Beef Soup, Bean Curd with Sauce, Onion Cake, Fried Cake with Duck Oil and the Thin Noodles with Smoked Fish.
