Yichang Travel Guide

 

Yichang, originally known as Yiling, in the southwest of Hubei Province, is located in the middle or upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The world-famous Three Gorges Project is being done in Yichang. It is the second center city in Hubei province and administers three cities and five counties. Yichang has an area of 21,000 square kilometers with the total population of 4,149,300, and the number of urban population is about 1,338,000 in Yichang city.
 
Yichang has a subtropical monsoon and humid climate with four distinct seasons. Annual average precipitation is about 1404mm. Rainwater is rich, and more in summer. Generally a long-time precipitation occurs in June or July. Rain and higher temperature happen in the same quarter of the year in Yichang.
 


Yichang has a long history, according to historical records; Yichang has 2700-year history. The time-honored Yichang is the cradle of ancient Ba culture and origin of Chu culture. It is the hometown of Qu Yuan, one Chinese great patriotic poet and world celebrity. Qu Yuan lived in the Warring states period, and he suicide himself for his home-country invaded by other stronger power. It is also the hometown of Wang Zhaojun who married Hun Khan for peace and stability. It is also the destinations of many famous learners, literators, artists, poets and ideologists. They once indulged themselves into these attractions. Yichang was once the place for exiling those demoted officials. The famous and attractive stories happened in three-kingdom period are also adding more charm to this area. Many wise strategists, brave generals, emotional emperors and so on are added more to the history of Yichang. If you are interested in China's Peking Opera, you will find more specific images or characters in the story performed on the stage. That is widely excepted and welcome in the folk community. Yichang is one of 11 national key travel cities. Yichang is also ranked the first place in the number of the scenic spots in Hubei Province.

Yichang is located in the conjunction zone of central China and western China. Yangtze River golden waterways, Jiaozuo-Liuzhou Railway, 318 State Road are all going across Yichang. It has been increasingly important position for land and water transportation.
