Weifang Travel in China

Weifang is located in the middle of Shandong Peninsula. It is the World Capital of Kite and China’s perfect tourism city. Weifang administrates four districts, six cities, two counties and three urban development zones. It covers the total area of 1,590,000 square kilometers and has a population of more than 8,500,000.

Hypsography of Weifang is higher in the south area and lower in the northern part. Weifang has rich products and resources. The coverage of shallow sea is around 4,462 square kilometers and reserves of sapphire are top around China. There are also 25 large and medium reservoirs. The largest one is Xiashan reservoir with the capacity of 14,000,000,000 steres. There are more than 1800 unmovable cultural relics such as the ancient relics, ancient architectures, ancient stone-carvings and portraits. Among them, there are 3 national cultural relics, 27 provincial cultural relics and one national scenic spot. There are also 4 intangible cultural legacies, 1 national natural reserve and so on.

Weifang is a historical city famed for its handicraft industry. During the reign time of Qianlong in Qing dynasty, Weifang was called like this: the famous city in south China is Suzhou and Weifang in North China. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was famous for 200 red kilns, 3000 coppersmiths, 9000 embroidering women and 100,000 looms. Weifang is also the largest distributing center of kites and xylographs in China’s history. Weifang is also well-known for its silver lacquers, archaized coppers, embroidery and cloth-toys.

Weifang has over 50 scenic areas. On the basis of the research and exploration of the local customs and tourism resources in 1980s, the local-custom itinerary was opened and this itinerary became China’s first special one on folk custom. The travelers could visit Shihu Garden with the mixed gardening styles of China’s south and north area, Yangjiabu xylograph, one of China’s three painting markets and unparalleled kite museum which is the largest one all around the world. Every year, on 20 April, the international kite festival is held here. Weifang is the traffic hub in Shandong peninsula. It has an advanced transport network.
