Yangtze River Bridge tour

Yangtze River BridgeThe Yangtze River Bridge was built solely by the great effort and architectural technique of the Chinese people. It has enlisted in the Guinness Book of Record which praised the bridge as "The World's Longest Bridge for Motors and Trains". The gigantic cross-river project formally began on January 18, 1960. It spent 8 years to complete. The length of the entire bridge is about 6.7km, of which the highway is 4.5km. Below the bridge, ships of ten-thousand-ton class can pass through.


The cotes on the both side of the Yangtze River Bridge are beautifully decorated with 200 pictures of bas-relief that engraved on cast iron. On the sides of the pedestrian ways, there are 150 pairs orchid-shaped street light. They look tidy and elegant. At night, the brilliant 1048 light bulbs on the fences and the luminous 540 halogen lamps on the piers shine the Yangtze River bright as in daylight. The locals describe such magnificent scenery as "it seems the galaxy has fallen on earth from the heaven".

Two pairs of bridge towers are on the both end of the Yangtze River Bridge, each of the towers is 70m height with an elevator that goes up to the viewing platform at the top, there are three red flags that depict the three main social scenes in 1950s' China, People's Commune, The Great Leap Forward and The General Guidelines of the Communist Party. Moreover, on each of the bridge tower's top, a set of five warrior statues that represent the five images in 1960s' China, worker, farmer, soldier, student and merchant. Chairman Mao Zedong's inscription "Only the Common People can be the World's History Makers" is engraved on the side walls of these bridge towers. On the southern end of the Yangtze River Bridge, a scenic park that has an excellent environment and recreational area, is located.
