Taxis are very affordable in Shanghai, they are very honest cabbies too. Starting fare is 10RMB and they will issue a receipt when you reach your destination. You can hardly get a cab when the weather changes (sudden rain), except to take a local bus then. Local bus charges 1RMB for non-aircondition, and 2RMB for aircondition. But they can get very crowded. The subway system are efficient, but too crowded. If you met a taxi driver you like, get their contact number, so that the next time when you want to travel to some outskirts, you can call them upon to drive you there. But, bear in mind that taxi drivers work 24hrs per day, they will get their off day the next day.
You can take a ferry boat ride across the Huangpu River from the Bund to the Pudong area. The journey takes about 10-15 minutes and it costs about RMB$20 per trip. The jetty of the boat is at the Bund area near to the flyover coming down to the Bund. Ferry ride across the Huangpu River of Shanghai.
Due to the heavy traffic, travelling by the metro in Shanghai is a good and cheap way. It is easy to move inside the metro as there are English signs and instructions in addition to Chinese. Nowadays, international flights land at Pudong Airport to the east of Shanghai city. In fact, the airport is rather far from the city and taking a taxi will cost at least RM$120 to $200. Many international flights serve Pudong airport. As for domestic flights, they are at the Hongqiao Airport. Therefore, it is very important to let the taxi driver know the correct airport, otherwise he/she might bring you to the wrong one.
