Shanghai Museum

 

Shanghai Museum is the large-scale museum of Chinas ancient art. More than 12,000 pieces of rare and valuable antiques quite well preserved in museum. Shanghai Museum is more characteristic for keeping the bronze ware, chinaware, calligraphy and painting works. It is well-known at home and abroad for the diversity of antiques and the delicacy of quality. Shanghai Museum was founded in 1952, and its original address is west Nanjing Road 325. Since then it began its development.

In 1952, Shanghai Municipal Government made a decision that establishing the new Shanghai Museum buildings in a part of golden terra of people square of Shanghai downtown. It covers 2800 square meters. It is generally divided into Showroom of Chinas copperware, Showroom of Chinas chinaware, Showroom of Chinas traditional painting, and Showroom of Chinas ancient seal. Some successful displays have been done in Hong Kong, America and Japan such as Copper Exhibition of Shanghai Museum, Six-Thousand-Year Art Display of China, Rare Chinaware Display of Shanghai Museum, Calligraphy Exhibition of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Display of Yangzhou Eight-Masters, Display on Literators Study in later Ming Dynasty. 
           
The total coverage of Shanghai Museum is 12,000 square meters. The first floor is Chinas Ancient Copper Hall, Chinas Ancient Sculpture Hall and Exhibition Hall. The second floor is Chinas Ancient Chinaware Hall, Zandelou Chinaware Hall and Exhibition Hall. The third floor is Chinas Ancient Calligraphy Hall, Chinas Ancient Seal Hall. The fourth floor is the Chinas Ancient Seal Hall, Chinas Ancient Money Hall, Chinas Furniture Hall of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Chinas Arts Hall and Exhibition of Minority People.      
     
The advanced fire and safe protection equipments, electrical education equipments, the computer management system of antique and rare book documents, building-automatization management system, equipments of automatization-control on humidity and temperature in showroom and depot. Lecture Hall of Shanghai Museum used for academic report and some special rooms for study and research have also been established. Some experted system of simultaneous interpretation and visual and audio systems also have been assembled. All of these equipments offer good environment of tour for visitors at home and abroad and offer great help to improve the cultural taste of Shanghai as an international metropolis.

Shanghai Museum is famous for its massive collection of delicate art antiques at home and abroad. Among them, the copperwares, chinawares and ancient calligraphy and painting are more typical.
The copperwares of Shanghai Museum mainly come from famous antiques of the several collectors of Southern Yangtze River in late Qing Dynasty.
