On November 21, 2011, Hainan High-Speed Railway was tested for run and officially opened by the end of November, 2011. The east-round railway is comprised of 14 railway stations by way of several important destinations of Hainan province like Haikou, Wenchang, Qionghai, Wanning, Lingshui and Sanya. The design of railway and the selection of stations are both inclined to the important cities or tourist destinations like Boao of Qionghai and Xingnong of Wanning in order to promote the development of local tourism. The high-speed railway from Haikou Station to Meilan Airport in fact plays the role of city light-rail transportation, and its speed is 80 kilometers per hour. From new station of Haikou to Sanya station, the targeted speed is 200 kilometers per hour and 250 kilometers per hour at the specified future date.

The types of trains are comprised of three kinds: the non-stop train, and the second belonging to the big-station train that only stops at some big railway stations like Wenchang Station, Qionghai Station, Wanning Station and Lingshui Station, and the last belonging to the common train that stops at every station, and such kind of train generally needs two and half hours from the beginning station to the terminal station. The tickets consist of three kinds: the special-class cabin, the first-class cabin and the second-class cabin. Currently, there are the service points of manually selling tickets.

Hainan is the smallest province of China, and the main economic engine is its third industry, especially the tourism and hotels. The opening of Hainan High-Speed Railway not only facilitates the life of local people but also shortens the time on the way to tourist destinations of Hainan, so in this way, it is a quite good promotion to the development of Hainan, and surely will be a part of uniqueness of Hainan tourism.
