Jiangyin

According to some ancient Chinese documents, Jiangyin (江阴) of Jiangsu has a history of 2,500 years. It was called Jiyang (暨阳) County about 1,800 years ago. About 555 AD it was then named Jiangyin Eparchy because the location was at the southern bank of Yangtze River. The name is still being used at present. In the Mongol ruling Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368) it became Jiangyin Eparchy again. On April 22, 1949, Jiangyin City had been liberated by Communist Party of China. At this time the city belonged to Southern Jiangsu Changzhou Administration and in 1953 it was under the authority of Suzhou. It then belonged to Wuxi in 1983. Now Jiangyin City is located in the north of Wuxi (无锡) area.
