Architecture Tour in Shanghai

Marshall HousePick you up from you hotel at about 9am. Your tour starts with a visit to Marshall House on Taiyuan Road, so the other name is Taiyuan Villa. Known as the Marshall House for American general George Marshall who stayed here between 1945 and 1949 when he was mediating the China’s political issues. This magnificent mansion, originally built in 1920, belonged to a rich French woman. In 1953, this house was used as national hotel, to accommodate country heads. Now the villa is a part of Ruijin Hotel.

Ruijin HotelThen we go to the Ruijin Hotel in the heart of French concession, this pleasing 1930s colonial-style hotel is located on the grounds of the former Morris Estate. Morris was one of the first western adventurers landed in Shanghai. This villa has too many legends and stories, only the garden covers more than seven hectares. Many movies had used it as background. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Your lunch is served in a Chinese restaurant at about 12:30pm.

Dr Sun Yat-sen's former residenceAfternoon’s tour takes you to Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s former residence on Sinan Road, who was a Chinese revolutionary and political leader, often referred to as the Father of Modern China. Sun played an instrumental role in the eventual collapse of the Qing Dynasty in 1911. This house was where he lived the longest in Shanghai with his wife. There are also lots of attractions on this tranquil Road, like Zhou Enlai’s former residence, who was the first Premier of the People’s Republic of China, serving from October 1949 until his death in 1976. Enjoy the cozy afternoon here.

XintiandiThe last stop is Xintiandi, the best place for tourists to appreciate historic, cultural modern life in Shanghai. It’s also the liveliest area in the city. With many unique Shanghai style Shikumen houses, it maintains the Shanghai’s early 20th century style and reveals old Shanghai feelings. But inside, it’s a modern place, has numerous bars, coffee houses, fashion shops, etc. Definitely a good place to spend the night!

At about 5pm, send you back to your hotel or any other downtown place you like.
