Visits : Shanghai Xintiandi Plaza
This morning/afternoon, our tour guide will take you to see some different styles of houses. These old buildings have witnessed the history of Shanghai. You will visit Marshall House, Ruijin Hotel, the former residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Moller Villa, and Peace Hotel. Marshall House, also known as Taiyuan Villa, is a typical American style villa for American general George Marshall who stayed here between 1945 and 1949 when he was mediating between Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek. This magnificent mansion, originally built in 1920, was one of many homes of Jiang Qing (also known as Mme. Mao) between 1949 and 1976. Moller Villa, one of Shanghai´s architectural marvels, was owned by Swedish shipping tycoon Eric Moller and completed in 1936. It is said that Eric Moller came to Shanghai in 1919 and made his fortune here at horse races. And he built this fantasy home for his daughter. The daughter had a dream in which she saw a castle like this one. On awakening, she drew a sketch. The father was so fond of his youngest daughter that he immediately commissioned an architect to build her dream house. The villa now is a hotel.
