Day 1

Departure -> Vientiane

Upon arrival, you will be met by your local guide who will transfer you to your hotel in Vientiane. After a short break you will get to see some of the major sights of the capital, like the oldest Wat Sisaket, which has thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. From there you will stop at the Patuxay Monument for some photographs. It is well-known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. After that you will visit the central market known locally as the morning market where you can buy antique goods. After dinner you will be transferred back to the hotel.

Day 2

Vientiane -> Xiengkhuang (B, L)

You will be transferred to the airport for the flight to Xiengkhouang, where you will be taken to visit the Plain of Jars; an impressive archaeological site where hundreds of large stone jars are littered all over the plateau. Then, this afternoon visit the old capital of Muang Khoun Province, and the nearby villages, home to the Hmong hill tribe and Tai Dam people. They have an interesting local culture, and a colorful history. Stay overnight in Phonsavanh (the capital town of Xiengkhuang).

Day 3

Laos   (B, L)

Xiengkhuang -> Luang Prabang by road 

In the early morning you will visit the central market of Phonsavanh to watch different Hill tribes barter and exchange their merchandise,  then leave for Luang Prabang. On route you will get the opportunity to see a site of Buddha images more than 200 years old in Thampra, as well as the tribal villages of the Hmong people who will welcome your visit. After a photo stop, we will continue driving up hill, enjoying the splendid mountainous scenery. After a short break for refreshments at Sala Phoukhoun, the journey will continue across the mountainous region to Luang Prabang. During another short break, you can stroll through the street night market where you will find a lovely collection of textiles hand-made by the locals. Following this you will climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred gilded stupa as well as viewing the beautiful sunset over this once royal ancient city, and the Mekong River.

Day 4

Luang Prabang -> Pak Ou Cave 

After breakfast, you will enjoy a visit to the city’s oldest temple – Wat Visoun, and the shrine of Wat Aham, Wat Mai, Wat Sene, and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its low sweeping roofs that reach to the ground, representing the classical architecture of the Luang Prabang temple. Then you will take a cruise on the famous Mekong River, giving you a beautiful view of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves; crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. Along the way you stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where they make local rice wine. On the way back to Luang Prabang you can take a short visit to Ban Phanom, well-known for its hand weaving.

Day 5

Laos   (B)

Luang Prabang - Departure

Early in the morning you will enjoy the highlight of the tour when you join the saffron-clad monks, and participate in the daily early morning ritual of being given offerings, such as sticky rice, from the local people into their black Alms giving-bowls. After breakfast you will visit The National Museum at the former Royal Palace. It displays a lovely collection of artifacts reflecting the richness of the Lao culture dating back to the days of the early kings right through to the last sovereign. Then you continue on to visit the Fine Arts School, and the central market. At the appointed time you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
