Hong Kong Half Day Tour D (Walled Village, Mao Mo Temple, Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees)[detail] |
This morning or this afternoon start your Hongkong New Territories tour. It includes Walled Village, Mao Mo Temple and Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees. Walled Village is a kind of traditional building which is completely surrounded by thick defensive walls, protecting the residents from the attack of wild animals and enemies. Usually, people living in the walled village are extended families or clans sharing the same surname. Man Mo Temple, on Hollywood Road, built in 1847 during British governing Hong Kong period, is one of the oldest and most famous temples in Hong Kong. It's a Taoist--Buddhist temple, worshipping the God of Literature--Man Tai "Man Cheong" and the God of War--Mo Tai "Kuan Yu". Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees, located near the Tin Hau Temple in Lam Tsuen, is one of the popular shrines in Hong Kong. The two banyan trees are frequented by tourists and the locals. Previously, they burnt joss sticks, wrote their wishes on joss paper tied to an orange, then threw them up to hang in these trees, praying for luck, love, success and safety, etc. It was believed that if the paper successfully hung onto one of the tree branches, their wishes will come true.
