Picked up at your hotel and begin your tour with a visit to Jade Buddha Temple. Proceed to Pudong, experience the fast development of the city. Ascend to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower to get a panaramic view of the Bund and Pudong.Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon continue to visit the former French Concession, stroll at Toron Road lined with former residences of dozens of cultural celebrities in Chinese history(some free and some entrance fees at own expenses).
Before being transferred back to your hotel pay a visit to Xintiandi Recreation Area, a perfect combination of East and West, Past and Present.
- Jade Buddha Temple: Built during the troubled reign of the Qing Emperor Guangxu (1875-1908) and burned down after having been occupied during the 1911 revolution. It has a large collection of Jade Buddha Statue from Burma.
- Oriental Pearl TV Tower: Once this area were standing a low-rise jumble of warehouses and muddy settlements until Oriental Pearl TV Tower was completed in 1995, served as a symbolic declaration of future-forward orientation and grand ambition of Shanghai. Now it is one of the landmarks of this city. It is also the highest TV Tower in Asia (468 meters high).
- French Concession: From 1849 to 1943, it served as French Concession Region. It’s a history book and also great area for exploring, from the old European buildings in shady avenues to the cafes and restaurants and shopping area of Huaihu Road.
- Xintiandi Recreation Area: In the late 1990s, sterile office and apartment blocks began to replace traditional neighborhoods where vibrant street culture and tight-knit family life had long thrived. Shikumen(Stone Gate), a unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural features were born in that time. Housed in the Shikumen complex, Xintiandi Recreation Area now has become a bustling pedestrian zone featuring upscale shopping, dining and entertainment Popular with tourists, expats and Shanghainese nouveaux riches.
