In geography, Three Gorges area starts from Yichang city, Huibei Province, however in convention especially in tourism; Wuhan is considered as the starting point of Three Gorges area.

Yichang has an area of 21,000 square kilometers with the total population of 4149300, and the number of urban population is about 1338000 in Yichang city.
