Located in the northeast area of Huangping County, Kaili, Guizhou, Flying Cloud Cliff boasts cluster of timeworn architectures incorporating Buddhism, Daoism and Confucianism. The three-day Si Yue Ba Festival fueled with activities including birds fighting, Reed-Pipe singing and dancing, acrobatics, kungfu show, fashion show and singing contests, will turn Feiyun Cliff into a land of color, music and happiness.

What to see in Feiyun Cliff:

Shanmen Archway: built during Qing dynasty, this quaint gate is especially photographic. The plaque embedded in the middle of this archway which reads” Number One Cave in Southeast Guizhou”, is most revealing. Since Ming dynasty, many scholars, governors and artists have been polishing it with vivid sculptures and incredible calligraphic works. In some sense, it has become a cultural icon and a key to decode the vision, wishes and ambition of ancient Chinese as well as to sample the obscure traditional Chinese culture. All the well-proportioned and vivid sculptures you can find here, such as dragons, phoenix and mythical animals, are auspicious and highly symbolic.

Huangjing Mansion: it is the only Daoism architecture here. This single-eave multi-storey wooden architecture has three main rooms and is attached with a corridor.

The Archway of Yuetan Monastery: built during 1936, this six-column five-room brick memorial archway integrates traditional Chinese architecture with western style. Auspicious animals such as white elephant, lions, qilin(an auspicious and mythical animal) as well as religion figures grace this archway, turning it into a artwork of irresistible charm.

Feiyun Cave: this karst cave is spacious and houses grotesque limestone rocks of various shapes. It is cool in summer and warm during winter. Along the cliff, a giant Cyprus tree grows out from a rock at a mind-numbing height. As early as 1897, it has been mentioned by a poet for its unbending character.

Ethnic Festival Museum: built in 1988, it is the first ethnic festival museum in China. Divided into four quarters addressing festival costumes, activities and cuisine respectively, it is the best place in Guizhou to study ethnic festival. You can see over 20 kinds of Miao costumes inside, as well as their eye-dazzling silver ornaments and jewelries with peerless craftsmanship.
