Shanjuan Cave

Shanjuan Cave is considered one of the three most wonderful caves in the world. The two other are Hanren Cave of Belgium and Lyons Cave of France. It is located in Luoyan Mountain, about 20 kilometers to the southwest of Yixing. It is the main body of Shanjuan Cave Scenic Spot. The cave has been famous for its beautiful cave scenery since ancient times. Many celebrities visited here and some of them wrote inscriptions which expressed their high praise.

Shanjuan Cave was called Stone Chamber in Three Kingdoms. It looks like a stone-carved building, which has three floors. At the entrance of the second floor stands a seven-meter-high stalagmite. A giant and vivid stone-lion and stone-elephant stand on both sides guarding the entrance. The third floor is cool in summer and warm in winter, and is swarm with cloud and mist, which make you feel that you are standing in an earthly paradise. It is a forest of multi-shaped stalactites. Some of them look like animals such as horses, sheep, dragons, white cranes and goshawks. Some of them look like flowers, such as lotus flowers.

A 120-meter-long subterranean river named Shui Dong goes through the cave. You can boat on it and meanwhile enjoy the murmuring of running water as well as the beautiful natural scenery around you. In Shanjuan Cave Scenic Spot, there is a history museum in which educational materials for patriotism are exhibited. Besides, there is also a three-star hotel named Luoyan Mountain House at the foot of Luoyan Mountain.
