In the early period of Sui dynasty, Zhuruwan waterway has extended to Yiling Town, Gaoyou, Sheyang Lake and so on. Later at the cost of more than 3.6 million labor forces and more than 2 million casualties, four parts of the channel such as Yongji waterway, Tongji waterway, Gangou and Jiangnan River were connected with one another, which made the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal with more than 1700 kilometers long appeared. It regulated most of the Chinese water conservancies. It becomes the most valuable and durable man-made river.
In 2003, President of France Jacques Chirac in the company of Jiang Zeming served as the China’s president at that time highly spoke of this ancient canal. Zhuruwan is the source of the first man-made canal in the world. On the both sides, there are many historic relics and many cultural landscapes. Anciently it was the first port before entering Yangzhou from north. Many emperors in the past visited this port of Yangzhou.
