Yangzhou Lotus Pool Park

Lotus Pool Park is located at the south side of Hehuachi Road. Its original name is Nanchi(Southern pool) and Yanchi (Inkstone pool), also it is named after the large-scale lotus in the pool. At the early time of Qing dynasty, a famous villa named Southern Garden (Nanyuan in Chinese pinyin) was established at the poolside. The Southern Garden is one of the eight famous gardens in Yangzhou at that time. Southern garden is near Inkstone Pool. At its opposite side, there is a Wenfeng Pagoda (literally in English Cultural Peak Pagoda). This is a unique scenic spot named Yanchiranhan (Literally in English: Inkstone dyes the Sea or Culture). At that time, the garden holder purchased nine rare stones or stone-peaks of Taihu Lake, which were very treasurable. It is said that these stones were all the special tribute to the royal. In the garden, originally there are many old architectures and detailed landscapes. When Emperor Qianlong visited here and highly spoke of this garden, and royally named it Jiufeng garden (Literally in English Nine-peak garden) and selected two of nine and ordered to transport northwardly into Beijing. Currently in Yangzhou there are only two peaks left one is in Slender West Lake, and the other in Shi Kefa Memorial Hall, elegantly called Nanyuanyishi(in English literally the left stone of Southern Garden ).

In 1981, the waterside park was fabricated beside Lotus pool, which is Lotus Pool Park at present. Lotus Pool Park is located at the north of the pool, and in profile looked like half bird, besides surrounded by the trees. The constructed building is the classical house made of brick and wood. It is a good leisure center for appreciating the local life and local feature of Yangzhou.
