He Garden of Yangzhou

 

 

He garden is located on the street of Xuningmen in Yangzhou city. He garden is the key cultural relic under the state-level protection. It is one of the famous historic and cultural attractions in Yangzhou city. He garden also named Jixiaoshangzhuang was the old site of another garden Shuanghuai Garden (two locust trees garden in literal translation) in the reign of Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty. During the time of Emperor Tongzhi in Qing dynasty, the official He Cangren reconstructed Shuanghuai garden and renamed it Jixiaoshangzhuang, which covers more than 1, 4000 square meters. Later it became the back garden of He family, so it was also called He Garden. In 1883, the garden owner retreated in Yangzhou and purchased some land and then enlarged this garden.

The whole garden could be divided into two parts. The east garden has the four-side hall which is the main building in this section. In the west section, there is a large land and a big pool located in the center. He Garden is the typical garden in Yangzhou. The layout of garden vegetation is also unique. The plum blossom, laurel blossom, peony, maple trees and phoenix trees and so on all give the elegance to this ancient garden. The garden in Yangzhou looks like the traditional Chinese painting and Chinese essential poem.
