Ancient and Ethnic Villages in Yangshuo

 

 

Mushan Village (木山村), a very old village from thirteenth century, situates two kilometers to the south of downtown Yangshuo. The houses and cottages we see today are from late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, in unique layouts. The all cottages in the village are built in an octagonal shape that surrounds a circular fresh water pool, with the swimming fishes in the pool as to form a Tai Chi Diagram. The ingenious design also nicknamed the Octagonal Village. Attractions near Mushan Village are Snow Lions on Twin Mountains (雪狮双岭, Xue Shi Shuang Ling in Chinese), Fairy on Sedan (仙人坐车, Xian Ren Zuo Che) and Shutong Mountain (书童山).

Langzi Village (朗梓村) originated in sixteenth century. It is a famous ethnic Zhuang folk village. Nowadays, it only left Tan's (覃) Family Ancestral Temple and Tan's Old Mansion, which are from the Qing Dynasty period, in very large scale with excellent architectural techniques and great artistic value. Langzi Village attracts many tourists at home and abroad. 

 

 

 

 

Longtan Village (龙潭村) established in the Ming Dynasty is a typical country of ancient architecture and magnificent landscape. The excellent water here is good for make bean curd (tofu). Longtan Bean Curd is a specialty and as a part of cultural life in the village.

Liugong Village (留公村) is by the side of the Lijiang River. Early Qing Dynasty architecture is the spotlight here. Deyue Tower (得月楼) is the best one to see.
