Jimei Jiageng Park

Jimei Jiageng Park is located in the southeast coast of Xiamen City. It was built in memory of Sir Chen Jiageng, namely the founder of Xiamen University, a patriotic overseas Chinese who made great contributions to the development of Xiamen. He was born on Oct. 21st, 1874 in Jimei Town, Xiamen City, Fujian Province. Following his father, he went to Singapore to get engaged in trade when he was 17 years old. Later, he became a well-known businessman both at home and abroad due to his own hard work and talent in doing business. Although he lived abroad for long, he never forgot his homeland: China. He raised a great amount of funds and established Jimei School, Xiamen University, and Jimei Ao Garden in Xiamen successively. Through out his entire life, he never stopped uniting the overseas Chinese and helping to develop the nation until he died.

The park was finished in 1994 in accordance with Sir Chen Jiageng’s last wish. It takes up an area of 30,000 sq meters. Its architectural layout was designed according to the Chinese ancient garden-style residence. It has five pavilions, a hall, and a massive sculpture which reveals the contributions made by Sir Chen Jiageng. Besides, it has decorative corridors, bridges, greenbelts, and rivers, etc.
