The Hubei Museum

 was established in 1953 along the scenic East Lake. It is the only comprehensive museum in the province, and the research institution in collecting and studying of historical relics. The museum now collects about 200,000 ancient relics, which include potteries, copperwares and weaponries.

  In the performance hall of the Hubei Museum, concerts are often held in playing Chinese and Western tunes by using the replicated ancient bells. These concerts represent a special characteristic among the museums in China. The Bell Dances and Songs Program is a fruitful result of the Hubei Museum's researchers. Through research, they made their attempt successfully in imitating of the ancient dance performances in the Hubei region. The dance troupe has traveled and performed 20 times in foreign countries. They have been praised as "the essential mean for cultural exchange".

 

The Research Institution in Archeology of Hubei Province was found in 1989, it is responsible in preserving and protecting the cultural heritage in the province, as well as engaging in excavation of new sites and research in various new discoveries. The institution has involved in the construction of the Three Gorges Dam and some essential railway lines. It took part many archeological research and protection of cultural relics on the construction areas.
