Nanxi River

 

 

The 150-kilometer long Nanxi River (楠溪江) is to the east of Yandang Mountain Scenic Area and 23 kilometers to the south of downtown Wenzhou. This river is a state level sightseeing area, where it has a total area of 625 square kilometers. It consists of Nanxi River, Riverside Agricultural Culture Zone and many magnificent stone and mountain scenes. They combine the natural and man-made views, thus give travelers the impression that the artificial things are so in harmony with the Mother Nature.

Nanxi River is flowing through the entire region of Yongjia County (永嘉县) of Wenzhou. It runs from north to south. But it is also long and winding and lastly it flows into East China Sea. The beauty of Nanxi River is that it is well preserved in its originality and nature. The water is clean, crystal-clear and not being polluted. Pretty fish swimming in the water will be clearly seen. Only 1/10,000 gram of sand grains can be found in one cubic meter of water, which is neutral with PH value seven.

The upper reaches of Nanxi River are full of water pools. Hills are having waterfalls that water flies and falls down with majestic power. These hills and peaks are being dotted along Nanxi River. The cliffy Taiping Rock, the strange Triangular Rock, the bonsai-like Lion Rock, the towering Chaotian Turtle Rock and the Shiwei Rock, which is erected in the river. They successfully make a magnificent and natural landscape picture.

Nanxi River's uniqueness is that it has the relic site of Neolithic culture and ancient architecture of pagodas, bridges, kiosks, stone archways and battlefield relics, which are from Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. China cultural heritage like traditional geomancy, ancient stationery and old family genealogies are invaluable materials for history lovers and scholars. 

Nanxi River Transportation

Travelers may go to Wenzhou city, take a local coach at New South Coach Station to Yongjia County, and then visit the variety of places by local bus.

Drifting in Nanxi River is a great experience if you dare to do so. You sit in a bamboo made catamaran which will drift very fast with the river waves, so exciting.
