Wuyanling Mountain National Nature Reserve Zone

The Wuyanling Mountain National Nature Reserve Zone (乌岩岭国家级自然保护区) is the forest ecology and wildlife types of nature reserve which is on the verge of the East China Sea. It was in the northwest of Taishun country, with Shouning and Fuan in Fujian to the west, Wencheng and Jingning to the north. The total area is 18861.5 hectares. In 1975, Zhejiang government approved of building provincial-level nature reserve. In 1994, it was promoted to national level.

This natural protection area has rich animal and plant resources, with beautiful names of “Natural Biological Gene Bank” and “Green Ecological Museum”. Among them, wild plants under first class protection are Isoetes sinensis, Taxus mairei, Bretschneidera sinensis and water shield. There are 20 kinds of wild plants under second class protection, such as Cibotium barometz, Fokienia hodginsii, Pseudotsuga gaussenii, and Phoebe chekiangensis. 8 kinds of animals, wildlife under first class protection are Tragopan caboti, Neofelis nebulosa and so on. Macaque, Viverra zibetha belong to the 42 kinds of the wildlife under second class protection. The number of the animals is more than 1,300.

Baiyun Peak is the highest among 17 peaks with an altitude of 1611.3 meters in Wenzhou. It is the birthplace of Feiyunjiang River – one of the eight major river systems in Zhejiang province. There air quality is better than primary standard in scenic areas. The area bathes in a pleasant climate, with an annual average temperature of 15.2 degrees Celsius, and average temperature of 5.0 degrees in January.

Around the natural protection area, there appear many well-known scenic spots, such as ancient corridor bridges, former folk residents.
