Nanyang Bridge

Nanyang Bridge (南阳桥) in Sixi Town with a length of 4.17 meters and a width of 4.6 meters was built in 1870. It is a one-frusta-two-hole extension balk corridor bridge. There is a rock island settled in the stream, a beam put on which, then stretch on both sides in balance. It is a wood level bridge but not a wood arch bridge. This kind of bridge dated back to a construction style of the simple-supported wood beam bridge, which can shore up the beam more firmly, make the timber pile more stable at the same time. Many wood bridges adopt this structural form.

Beneficial facilities made by public projects in ancient villages, whatever official or private buildings, are publicly used. Thousands years past, "repairing bridge and paving the way” is considered as the public charity and easily supported by different walks of life. Five monumental steles stand in front of Wuxian Temple beside Nanyang Bridge, recording the bridge donor's names. From the tight cluster of the names, we can see that the bridge got so much financial support at that time.
