Suzhou Silk Museum

. The silk garments and decorations in the Ming and Qing Dynasties were mostly come from the skillful craftsmen of Suzhou.

For the purpose of promoting the silk culture of China domestically and internationally, the

Suzhou government

  has founded the

Silk Museum

. It is located in the Beishou Pagoda Scenic Area, with ingenious architecture and some modish ingredients. The theme of the museum is "The Silk Road", which means a historical relation between the old Silk Road and the new silk products market in China, it also reflects the exchanging ideas of East and West.

The graceful blend of ancient and modern things can be easily seen. The overall appearance the building is white color, the square in front of the entrance gate you will see a passage that symbolizes the

Silk Road

. This path intersects with an indoor corridor having modern-looking white walls on the sides. At the entrance, the passage is winding and unique design, which gives you the feeling of the ancient Silk Road. The outside layout of the main building is made according to the architectural style of ethnic minorities in northwestern China. On the building's wall, three tall sculptures made of white marble are engraved, the first, a girl is picking mulberry leaves (the food for silkworms), the second, a girl is washing the silk fabric, and the third, a girl is weaving a silk garment. These figures provided a dynamic beauty for the museum. 

The interior of the

Silk Museum

  is splendid with elegance, and having China's master sculptures of past and present. By travel at the front hall, you can read the history of China's development in the silk industry. On the stone wall, it is carved the four Chinese characters in ancient oracle style - "silkworm", "mulberry", "thread" and "silk". On the left, there is a stone made mural that depicts the history of silk in China and the scientific achievements in silk processing. The beautiful image of the wife of the Chinese ancestor Huang Di is here. She was the first person raising silkworms in China's history, known as "The Goddess of Silkworm".

It becomes an attraction in Suzhou, so tour the Suzhou Silk Museum means you are in the sea of knowledge in silk of China. It is also an essential place for the development of the industry today and in the future.


Go to the right, you can see a set of bas-reliefs picturing a caravan of camels roaming in the desert. This is the image from the silk trade that has been flourished since the Tang Dynasty. In the Ancient Hall, there are silk relics from the Neolithic to the Qing Dynasty eras displayed. The Plaiting House takes you to the flourishing time of the

silk industry

  in Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are demonstrations of craftsmanship in garment manufacturing. The performers are wearing the ancient Chinese clothes.
