Tashilhunpo Monastery

The Tashilhunpo Monastery (Chinese: 扎什伦布寺 Zha Shi Lun Bu Si, Tibetan transliteration: bkra-shis lhun-po) is one of the greatest Buddhist establishments in Tibet. It ranks in parallel with the Yellow Sect, or Geru of Tibetan Buddhist monasteries such as Drepung, Sera, Ganden, Tar and Labrang.
 
Tashilhunpo impresses visitors by its old but well preserved beautifully and brilliantly decorated architecture which is due to local government's massive investment on repair and renovation. A giant, coloful Thangka will be displayed on the exterior wall of a tall white pagoda during religious festivals, which will be held in the monastery.

Panchen Lamas had been living in the Tashilhunpo Monastery, which collects the world largest bronze sitting Buddha statue and Panchen memorial pagodas. Tashilhunpo is also a living witness to the unity of the Chinese and Tibetan people, because there is a Han Buddhist pagoda with the large Chinese characters literally means "Long Life to Qing's Dao Guang Emperor (1782 – 1850)".
