Xiagai Mountain

Xiagai Mountain stands in Yubei Plain on the border between Xietang Town and Gaibei Town. It occupies a land area of 0.5 square km. The mountain is shaped like Chinese steamed bread. It has an elevation of 169.9 meters. It was recorded in an ancient book that Dayu once came and stayed here when he fought against the flood. Thus, the mountain is also called Dayu Mountain or Xiajia Mountain. In the mountain, there are many historical sites, such as Pan Shan Shi Ba Jing, Bai Long Xing Yun Chi, Mingyang San Ting, and Gu Sao Temple, etc.

During the War of Resistance, some patriotic youth of Shangyu engraved 12 characters on the cliff, which still exist nowadays. They form two sentences, which read “Return our native land back to us” and “Endure hardship to wipe out the national humiliation.” The two sentences reveal the strong patriotism of the Chinese people. The mountaintop is quite smooth and is covered with pines. Standing on the mountaintop and looking far into the distance, you can enjoy the ribbon-like Cao’e River, a big river winding through Zhejiang Province. To the north of the mountain is an important production area of grapes in south China. You can simply taste the grapes when you visit Xiagai Mountain.
