Wozhou Lake

With an area of more than 8.18 sq km, Wozhou Lake is located in the southeast of Xinchang County, 12 km from Xinchang. Neighboring the lake is Wozhou Mountain. Both the lake and the mountain are rich in natural tourism resources. Boating along the lake, you can appreciate the magnificent dam, Shinu Peak, Ebi Peak, Xianglu Peak, Zhidun Mountain Range, Zhenjun Temple, and Dayuejiao Islet, etc.

Shinu Peak is also called Yunu Peak or Mrs. Stone for it is shaped like a woman, who is 6 meters tall. She wears her hair in a bun and looks at the lake as if she was waiting for some one. A folktale goes that long ago a fisherman went out fishing every day and in each afternoon, his wife stood on the mountaintop waiting for him. Then one day, the husband didn’t return home. The wife kept on standing there waiting for him. But he never returned. As time went by, the wife became a stone statue.

Zhenjun Temple is located in the south of Wozhou Mountain. The temple was constructed in 1904 in Qing Dynasty. It is magnificent and elegant. It integrates Buddhism with Taoism. There used to be more than 50 halls. But most of them were destroyed. Now, there remain the main hall and the left and right side halls.
