Shiwang Buddhist Temple

Shiwang Buddhist Temple is commonly called Shiwang Palace by the local people. The temple was established in 1672. But it was destroyed and restored for many times in history. The existing one was restored in 1972. It features a grand and dignified air. The temple is composed of a ritual gate, an age-old stage, a main hall, aisle rooms, and residential rooms.

The ritual gate boasts an antique beauty. It has elaborately-carved gateposts. The ornamental carving consists of lively lions and balls. There hangs a horizontal inscribed board over the gate. It reads Shiwang Palace. Go through the gate, you will see a stage, which faces the south. Due to several times of destruction and restoration, the stage has lost its original charm. Many ornaments have gone. There only remains a couplet on the stone pillar of the stage. It reads “Pictures full of sound and color, stories full of joy and reunion.” At the entrance, there stand two stone lions, which have been diligently guarding the stage since its establishment. In the main hall, there are a massive bronze bell and a huge drum. Shiwang Buddhist Temple is quite popular to the public. At weekends, it is usually crowded with local people and visitors who go there to pray for enduring happiness, health, and prosperity.
